Andrew Denton's latest project Hungry Beast has been a little hit and miss, but always challenging the usual mantra.
Last week they hit a peak though with an interview with a digger serving on active duty in Afghanistan. As this interview was bypassing all the usual sanitised Defence Forces media management, the guy's identity was concealed by using actors - four of them.
The interview was quality, and a unique insight into what is happening over there.
The piece was also remarkable for the quality of the acting from the four men, all of whom I haven't seen before. They were great.
And it was inspired they way they seemed to match different comments to the different blokes. The interview seemd to move (as you would expect between raffish blokey-ness to ocker humour to young impressionable and shocked, to abruptly matured beyond years and damaged by it. And the look and demeanor of each actor married up to those changing moods.
