The news that she passed away after a severe stroke has rocked fans worldwide.
I reflected today on how many many hours I and my wife have spent absorbed in the worlds she created, having both read every one of her books.
When we wanted a strong role model for our newborn son, we chose Jaxom, rider of the white dragon. Our daughter almost was named for Brekke - another great character from Pern.
A sad day for readers and for the art of good fiction.
