Some jobs in scientific research are massive. Since Galaxy Zoo farmed out the job of classifying Hubble's galaxy pictures to thousands of willing amateurs, scientists have been looking at other projects that can be crowd-sourced. Some projects are voluntary. Others get you to help without you even knowing - like ReCaptcha.
Now there is Whale.fm, which aims to decipher - with your help - the meaning of whale song.
It's all about pattern recognition - something humans are great at - computers, not so much.
