Well SETI's First Contact with aliens turned out to be a bit of a fizzer. World decidedly not going crazy

The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence - SETI - reported finding their first candidate alien radio signals this week. What's that? You missed it?

Seems most of the world did. A far cry from the Hollywood reactions characterised in that otherwise brilliant movie adaptation of Carl Sagan's novel Contact (one of Jodie Foster best roles).



SETI has always been a needle-in-a-haystack search. But now with the Kepler search identifying our first planets in the 'goldilocks zone', SETI searchers have real targets to point their radio telescopes at. To quick effect it seems.

Now of course no-one is saying this is alien contact. There's no embedded Hitler television clip after all. But what with all the Earth 2.0 coverage for Kepler 22b just a couple of weeks ago, you'd think this would have triggered a little more discussion and media interest...
