Most - nah almost all of us - will never get to see our planet from the depths of space.
But a 'lucky' six people will soon get to pretend they are on Mars. They will spend four months locked up in a mock space capsule, will have to suit-up whenever they step out onto the Mars surface, and importantly will have to see how they cope with astronaut tucker that whole time.
All of this is courtesy of Carnegie University, and is called the Hawaii Space Exploration Analogue & Simulation (HI-SEAS) and it starts early 2013. It's all about how people would cope with space grub for four months. Putting aside the nine months or so either side of the on-planet time to get there and back...
If you feel like being cooped up with strangers for four months, eating through a tube, and getting paid the princely sum of $5000 for your efforts, drop them a line! Deadline is February 29.
Think I might pass on this one.
