So making whiskey on the Space Station is an "experiment" right? Right....

Seems the folk at NASA have finally found a way to legitimately justify shipping some grog onto the International Space Station. All in the name of good science, you understand!

The Ardbeg Distillery - an old Scottish whiskey maker - have convinced NASA (picture a whole lot of serious arm-bending here) to take up the ingredients to their brew so they can set up their own little bootleg operation on the ISS. To find out if the whole process - and presumably the taste - is any different when done in zero gravity. Of course that's why - serious science folks. Nothing to see here - move along.


Interesting that this all apparently happened back in October, yet NASA is only coughing to the news now. 'Sorry - too late now!' You can certainly imagine the scrabble to unpack the supply ship and find the ingredients and the still...

Anyhow, it's not clear whether the ISS astronauts will indeed by the taste testers, or whether the resulting brew will be sent back to Earth after a good bit of zero-gravity maturation. But when you knock off for the day and float around with this view, who wouldn't mind celebrating life with a little tipple, and therefore be tempted to hold onto some of the product?



Either way, you have to wonder whether Ardbeg have pulled off the grog industry version of Angry Birds Space? And how much will it be worth if it is sent back home?
