In the future-tech movie The Island, people (including the gorgeous Scarlet Johannson) were constantly scanned, identified and monitored. The main thing scanned was the retina - a network of blood vessels at the back of the eye, the pattern of which is unique to every person. And they could do it at a distance, in a crowd.
Just sci fi right? Wrong.
Smart-Iris is a new system developed by DARPA - the people who created the internet. It can scan retinas in a moving crowd.
The world just got a little bit scarier...
