HIA exaggerating again on camapign against star ratings

More outrageous claims from the HIA about mandatory energy ratings in the Canberra Times.

Are we really expected to believe that the move from a 5 to 6 star minimum would add another $100,000 to an average $400,000 home build?

The HIA has opposed every single energy efficiency initiative around Australia for years. In 1999, they damned Queensland's first 3.5 star minimum as imposed by Maroochy Shire Council when I was a Councillor there, outraged that it would make it virtually mandatory that ceilings were insulated. In Queensland!

We faced an incredible battle finding enlightened builders here in Canberra. But now our 6 star home heats itself to 22 degrees and more every sunny winter's day, regardless of outside temps under 10 degrees. Was ANZAC Day your target for no heater? Add another 30 days here thank you.

With the tuning expenses a good home design saves, our additional build costs - far lower than HIA's claims - are being repaid in just a handful of years.

And it's far more comfortable to live in.

By the way, many of the items listed in the article as necessary to achieve 6 stars - while worthwhile design initiatives - have no impact on the star rating.
