There's trouble in the world of physics

It seems that there may have been a mistake in the measurement of the size of the proton - that pivotal building block of every atom - the one with the positive electrical charge.

It may have been overstated by four per cent. Not much you say, but we are dealing with tiny numbers across the board here, so four per cent is a big deal, as this Cosmos article explains:

"Either the previously accepted measures upon which hundreds of calculations have been based are wrong, or there is a problem with the theory of quantum electrodynamics itself. Either way, physicists still have some serious explaining to do."

Sure it won't change how most people go about their daily lives, but it's a fair bet there are a lot of physicists booking in some serious super-computer time as they go 'back to the drawing board' so to speak.
